Nestle required in-situ casting of 3no concrete circular silo bases to enable installation of effluent tanks to form a new Effluent Treatment Plant at their manufacturing facility in Tutbury. Extension to their existing yard, canopy works, and access road amendments were also required to facilitate the scheme, finished with installation of a new HVAC system and associated steelwork connections.

Due to the exacting nature of the silo bases, 2no 18m in diameter and 1no 16m in diameter, we allocated our directly employed Site Engineer to undertake precise setting out to ensure ‘right first time, every time’ delivery. We developed safe systems of work to meet millimetre construction tolerances and constant liaison between our Engineer, Operatives and Nestle Project Managers ensured the required precision was achieved.

Engaging with our tried and trusted M&E specialists in pre-start meetings allowed installation of the HVAC system to be effectively programmed into our works. Our Contracts Manager developed a robust and detailed overarching scheme programme, including phasing & logistics plans which allowed successful coordination of material, plant & equipment deliveries on site.

Acting as Principal Contractor under CDM 2015, we managed subcontractor specialists as per our requirements; developing safe systems of work to maintain the safety of all personnel and Nestle employees. As the site remained operational, this required extensive stakeholder communication and implementation of robust traffic management including vehicular and pedestrian diversions, particularly when the existing yard was extended.

We were praised on our professionalism and quality of workmanship shown throughout the contract and have since undertaken several schemes on behalf of Nestle at both their Tutbury and Buxton manufacturing facilities.
