Flood protection was required at Northern Powergrid’s critical power control facility, providing power to over 30,000 homes, following recent flooding nearby.

Working collaboratively with Northern Powergrid allowed construction to begin within 2 weeks of being appointed to the scheme, following compilation of detailed risk assessments, method statements and robust programme by our Contracts Manager.

Our multi-disciplined personnel, with extensive technical knowledge and experience of both civil engineering and flood resilience, developed the most appropriate solution for Northern Powergrid; a combination of civil and commercial level protection measures.

Installing a steel sheet piled wall along the length of the facility ensured effective retention to the perimeter and topped with gabion basket system, allowed a long-term solution to be realised. Coupled with installing a reinforced steel flood gate across the main entrance, effective flood mitigation was achieved.

Directly employing our entire workforce and wholly owning our internal plant holding allows us to take direct control of delivery. We utilised personnel with experience working in safety critical environments e.g. live terminal compounds, and developed safe systems of work utilising our specialist plant & equipment.

All works were completed on budget, and we were praised on our approach to safe, efficient delivery to a high-quality standard.
