UKs Largest Diameter Sewer Lining Project Completed  16/02/2007

Whitehouse have succesfully installed the UKs largest diameter sewer liner in the UK on the Derby Inner Ring Road preliminary works

The company has completed the largest ever wet lining process to strengthen four surface water sewers on the route of the final section of the Derby Inner Ring Road for Derby City Council. The Victorian constructed `egg' shaped sewers of 2.0 metre diameter are the largest ever lined in the UK by this method. The liners were made in Belgium and shipped overnight in refrigerated lorries before they were crane handled and eased into position before being filled with 500,000 litres of hot water to cure them in-situ. Company managing Director Steve Mckeown said, "We have pushed the technology in the specialist field out further than any previous work in the UK of this type in constructing this design and build project. Our innovation has saved considerable cost and disruption to the traffic flows in Derby by negating the need to lay new sewer pipes in traditional open cut".

Photographs show the liner being craned into the installation tower and running through an open chamber during installation.
