Whitehouse wins BEING THE BEST AWARD

Ashbourne based Civil Engineering Contractor WHITEHOUSE CONSTRUCTION has been awarded the Severn Trent Water Infrastructure Contractor of the Year Award 2006 at the recent Severn Trent Water Quality Working Day held at Stonleigh Park in Warwickshire.

The judges were
Martin Kane - Director Severn Trent Water
Steve Feely - The Institute of Civil Engineers - Chartered Institute of Water Engineering Managers

Sixty entries were reduced to three for the final judging and the winning entry submitted by Whitehouse related to the Derby Sewer Renovation Contract. This ten month long, £2.5M contract within the centre of Derby, involved the renovation of 6.8 kilometers of poor condition major trunk sewers. By using a no-dig method of work Whitehouse saved open trench work in the highways of Derby that may have caused massive traffic disruptions over a very long period of time.

The renovation process incorporated a special liner that was pulled through the sewer, pressurised to inflate it, and then treated to permanently to set it in place. Robots were used to cut the individual sewer connections inside the sewer through the new liner. The works were continuous on a 24 hour per day process over a ten month period and were complete on time, on budget, and totally accident and incident free.

Chairman of Whitehouse Brell Ewart said "Carrying out Civil Engineering work in the heart of cities such as Derby is no easy task. For us to be judged as the Severn Trent Water Infrastructure Contractor of the Year and receiving their Gold Award 'BEING THE BEST' demonstrates the high quality of construction delivery we at Whitehouse pride ourselves on producing for our customers. Receiving this award is fair recognition of the effort and quality of planning, for delivering safely, on time, and on budget a project that has benefited tens of thousands of people in the City of Derby. We are proud to be a Regionally based company giving service to the local community and proud to have won this prestigious accolade in competition".

Whitehouse is currently carrying out works on the £10.8 million Inner Ring Road Maintenance Scheme (IRRIMS) for Derby City Council, a project that is ahead of budget and due to finish many months early.
