As part of the Nottingham City / Derby City Council Highways Framework, we were appointed to undertake the first phase of the new cycle corridor for Nottingham City Council. Works included the creation of cycle lanes, narrowing of the current road and all associated street furniture and drainage.

Working collaboratively with Nottingham City Council during Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) stage, our highly trained and experienced Framework Manager and Contracts Manager developed innovative solutions to reduce costs and programme providing best value for NCC.

We suggested installing weir kerbs along the carriageway at regular intervals to utilise the pre-existing road drainage system. This eliminated the need for costly and time consuming drainage to be installed.

Significant traffic management proposals were put into place to ensure works were delivered in a safe, efficient manner and to a high-quality standard, whilst ensuring minimum disruption to all stakeholders within the busy city centre.

Regular updates via letter drops, radio announcements and phone calls were provided by our Stakeholder Liaison Officer; also ensuring all pertinent information was prominently displayed on public notice boards around site. Effectively minimising disruption, this allowed a steady traffic flow to be maintained through the city whilst works were taking place.

Reducing vehicular traffic into the city centre, the dedicated cycle lanes have promoted cycling within the city. Research conducted by Nottingham City Council shows an increase in cycle traffic by as much as 12% in some areas, as a direct result of construction of the western cycle corridor.
